Chair's Message
Welcome to the official website for the Tax Section of The Florida Bar. We hope that you will find our website a useful resource in your practice. Our goal is to provide Tax Section members the most up-to-date information on Tax Section activities and opportunities, as well as additional practice resources.
I am honored to serve as the 62nd Chair of the Tax Section. Many talented tax attorneys have contributed their services in order to make our Tax Section one of the most vibrant in the nation. Due to the efforts of so many of our members, The Tax Section will provide even more services to our members, the Bar and the community at large during the 2012-2013 year.
Our Fall Meeting is at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport from October 11, 2012 through October 13, 2012. After attending the full-day seminar, “S,K,C, and J – Making Cent$ Out of the Alphabet Soup,” and Section meeting the following day, members will be able to spend time with their friends and families while enjoying the hotel’s first class amenities. In addition, the hotel is close to all of the area’s theme parks.
The 35th Annual Meeting is scheduled from April 25, 2013 through April 27, 2013 at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center in Gainesville. The spring meeting will be held in conjunction with the University of Florida College of Law’s Graduate Tax program. Past Section Chair Richard Comiter is chairing the meeting, and Past Section Chair Lauren Detzel, along with UF Law Professor and LL.M. Tax Program Director Michael Friel are working on a program with an outstanding lineup of leading tax attorneys and law professors. On Saturday evening, after the Section meetings and seminar, the Section will honor Professor Dennis Calfee as the Gerald T. Hart Outstanding Tax Attorney of the Year.
This year we continue to expand our services to our members. In addition to our formal educational seminars, we plan on holding at least 16 free (to Tax Section members) lunchtime telephone seminars where individuals can earn CLE credits on a diverse selection of topics. Our New Tax Lawyers Division offers free in-person lunchtime CLE seminars in various cities throughout the state, and all Tax Section members are invited. Our Tax Section Bulletin continues to provide high-quality practical articles on issues affecting tax attorneys today.
There are many opportunities to become involved with the activities of the Tax Section. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service or if you would like to become more involved.
